White Fillings

The fillings blend in with your teeth to provide you with a long term solution and an affordable option to create a natural tooth-like appearance.
A filling replaces part of a tooth which has been lost due
to dental decay or an accident.
Unlike silver(amalgam) fillings, White Fillings stick to
teeth very well so they can be used to repair front teeth
which are chipped, broken or decayed. They can also be used to
repair back teeth providing the holes being filled are not too
big.
‘Composites’ and ‘Glass-ionomers’ are the two main classes
of white filling. They are used in different circumstances and
have quite different properties. Your dentist will advise you
which type is suitable for your particular situation.
White filling material is more expensive to buy and takes
considerably longer to place than an old-fashioned amalgam.
For these reasons a white filling will cost you more than its
silver equivalent.
White fillings are not available on the NHS in most
circumstances.

Benefits
- White fillings are the same colour as teeth. They come
in many ‘shades’ and can be closely matched to natural
teeth.
- A tooth needs less preparation (Drilling) to receive a
white filling than a silver filling.
- They can be ‘stuck-on’ to repair broken edges or worn
teeth often without requiring an injection.
- Can be used to cover unsightly marks and stains which
cannot be cleaned off.
