Veneers

Veneers can help brighten front teeth that have permanent stains that cannot be whitened. A veneer is a facing on the front of your teeth, usually your top teeth, it is just like a false fingernail. Veneers are made out of porcelain and are used mainly for aesthetic reasons.
A veneer is a thin layer of tooth-coloured material which
is fitted to the front of the tooth to make it look better.
The tooth may be damaged by decay or fractured as a result of
an accident, or it may simply be unsatisfactory in appearance
to the patient.
Veneers can also be used to close spaces between teeth or
straighten out minor irregularities.
The tooth or teeth are slightly trimmed so that the veneer
does not feel too bulky when it is fitted. An impression is
taken and this is used by a dental technician to construct the
veneer. The new veneers are usually fitted onto the teeth with
a special cement 1 week later.

Benefits
- Veneers can greatly improve both the appearance of your
teeth, and your overall appearance, because a person’s smile
is one of the first things noticed by people who meet you.
- They hide gaps and imperfections, and you lose very
little natural tooth substance.
- Veneers can help protect teeth from further damage. For
example, acid from drinks or from the stomach can cause
destructive ‘erosion’ and wear the teeth away. The teeth
become thin and weaken. Veneers help protect against this.
- If the tooth is strong, a veneer is usually a better way
of improving its appearance than a crown.
